The Current Situation

Cybersecurity is becoming increasingly critical as manufacturing companies rely more on technology and interconnected systems to drive efficiency, productivity, and innovation.

The latest surge in cyber-attacks and data breaches has resulted in significant financial losses and reputational damage due to the likelihood to pay ransom to avoid downtime. With the integration of information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT) systems, the risks are even higher, making it crucial for manufacturers to adopt the right security measures to protect their systems.

How Difenda Can Help

With Difenda, manufacturers can better protect their critical IT and OT infrastructure with expert threat hunting, detection, and response. Difenda’s ability to provide increased visibility across the entire environment helps maintain business continuity and better protect intellectual property (IP). As one of the first cybersecurity companies to master the OT environment, learn how Difenda is uniquely positioned to support the manufacturing industry here.

Overcome common cybersecurity concerns for manufacturers

As technology continues to advance, greater connectivity has brought benefits in terms of business and operations. But, it has also raised concerns about cybersecurity.

Ransomware is a major problem for the manufacturing industry due to its reliance on interconnected technology and systems. A single ransomware infection can quickly spread throughout the network, disrupting the entire manufacturing process, resulting in missed production deadlines, delays, and lost revenue. Manufacturers are prime target for cybercriminals due to their likelihood to pay ransoms to maintain productivity.

Lack of visibility in to the OT environment is the most significant challenge manufacturers face in identifying and mitigating cyber threats. Visibility into the OT environment is critical to maintain operational continuity, ensure product quality, and protect against cyber threats. Yet, many organizations are still not protecting this system. By increasing visibility, manufacturers can detect anomalous behavior and potential vulnerabilities in their OT systems, enabling them to proactively address security risks before they result in operational disruptions, product defects or data breaches.

One of the main concerns in the industry today is protecting intellectual property (IP) from theft and compromise. Protecting IP in manufacturing is essential for companies to maintain their competitive advantage, protect the company’s reputation and prevent financial losses. By taking a comprehensive and proactive approach to IP protection, manufacturers can minimize the risk of IP theft and ensure the continued success of their operations. The most effective way to safeguard IP is to implement a comprehensive cybersecurity program that includes both IT and OT security measures

Third-party vendors pose a significant security risk to the manufacturing industry due to their access to sensitive data and systems. Manufacturing companies often rely on third-party vendors for services such as supply chain management, and product design, among others. However, these vendors may have their own security vulnerabilities, and if breached, can serve as an entry point for cybercriminals to gain access to a manufacturer’s systems. Moreover, vendors may not have the same security standards or protocols in place as the manufacturer, making it challenging to ensure their security posture. Manufacturers must implement appropriate risk management measures, to reduce the risk of third-party vulnerabilities and protect against cyber threats.

Managing these risks requires a turn-key agentless extended detection and response (XDR) solution that is rapidly deployed, works with diverse endpoints, IoT, OT, and industrial control system (ICS) devices to provide unified threat protection across the entire environment.
